TIMEX Southampton 'Chronograph' (1958)

Ref. 12371 | Manual wound movement | 35mm

This single button chronograph, also called telemeter watch, dates from the early years of TIMEX, when watches were signed US Time on the case back. It isn't a genuine chronograph, but a watch with a stopwatch function.

The sliding switch @ 3 o'clock starts, stops and resets the sweep seconds hand so you can measure distance in time. When the sliding switch is in normal position, the sweep seconds hand works with the watch.

The watch measures 35mm (crown excluded), The TIMEX model number is 12371 and came in a silver dialed and a black dialed version. Both are manual wound watches. Retail price in 1958 was $15.95.

Reissue TIMEX + Todd Snyder Beekman watch

What you see here is the latest in a line of watch collaborations between the New York-based American menswear designer Todd Snyder and TIMEX. What we have here is a 40mm quartz timepiece in stainless steel with the vintage inspired dial in black. It has lots of lume on the hour markers as well as on the hour and minute hands, ensuring good legibility when transitioning from light to dark. And because this is a modern Timex, the dial itself lights up thanks to Indiglo, which can be activated by pushing and holding the crown down.

Interesting article

In their #TBT Series in which they review vintage timepieces worth mentionning, Fratello Magazine wrote an article on the "Timex Southampton From The Late 1950's". Nice to see that Tomas Rosputinsky is as enthusiastic about this TIMEX Chronostop model as I am. A true historical timepiece!
