KELTON Sirène and KELTON Design

The round Fun Timers were named KELTON Sirène in France. Perhaps the flashy colors and the colored ring around the dial reminded the french marketeers of the way sirens looked from above. These sporty waterproof plastic cased watches for women came on matching plastic straps for just under 100 French Francs.

The square and rectangle Fun Timers were marketed as Design watches as these pages of the 73 and 75 KELTON Catalogs show.

Once in a while you get the chance to obtain one of these plastic iconic watches. To get them on the original strap however is another story. As these straps were also from plastic, most of them didn't stand the test of time. They are falling apart, are heavily discolored or aren't there at all. However, sometimes you get lucky and get a NOS model in original case and outer box and on the original matching plastic or fabric strap.

Here are the full set KELTON models I've been able to acquire, including the KELTON Radio Monte Carlo promotion watch.

KELTON Radio Monte Carlo promotion watch

This 1974 KELTON Design RMC (Radio Monte Carlo) promotion watch is a special one. Don't know what the occasion was for this cooperation between KELTON and RMC. The chosen colour of the watch is rather peculiar as the colour of Radio Monte Carlo is red.

TOULOUSE FOOTBALL CLUB

Perhaps it has to do wirh the Toulouse Football Club that had a purple white outfit and had RMC as a shirt sponsor back in 1986-1987.

However, this would mean that KELTON used their 1974 stock, that still hadn't been sold to the consumer, to do this promotion.

A little far fetched if you ask me as their is no clue on the watch, it's box and papers that refers to the Toulouse Footbal Club.

So the mystery remains why this specific KELTON promotion watch came to be.
