OMEGA Timers & Stopwatches

OMEGA is well known for it's dominancy when it comes to timing of live sports events. They are the official timekeeper for the Olympic Games since 1932 and are active as timekeeper in several prestigeous sports. In the early days Omega used timers or stopwatches to measure time. Nowadays they use state of the art technology like sensors, touch pads, starting pistols etc.

Omega Lemania Timer MG 1166 (1960)

I already had some pocket watches in my Omega watch collection. Now I added my first OMEGA Timer from the early sixties.

Powered by the OMEGA (Lemania) 5000 calibre, reference MG 1166, measuring 50mm in diameter. A one pusher 60 seconds timer in a steel case. These Omega timers have Lemania serial numbers which dates this specific timer to 1960. Notice that the crown is onion shaped. Around 1962 the crown became round and flat on the top.

Reference material

Athough it's difficult to find reference material from OMEGA or Lemania on vintage timers and stopwatches, some fellow watch enthousiasts at omega.forums.net managed to identify a lot of these timers and stopwatches and succeeded to make it accessible.
